Idea: Hypnosis to make you stop

How well it worked: Well this has to be the weirdest yet! However I was happy to try anything and a friend suggested it so I gave it a go. The way it works is you download an mp3, put in on your ipod or what ever and listen to it a few times and it makes you stop. It sounded to good to be true but after a few listens I found myself not cracking my knuckles and after 9ish days (listening to it twice a day) people notcied before I had that I was not cracking my knuckes. Its weird as I had not even noticed I had stopped, I just wasnt thinking about it. So after all this I eventually had found something that worked!

Idea: Find the cause and fix it
Cost: FREE
How well it worked: The idea behind this is you write down whats on your mind every time you go to crack your knuckles. You do this for 4 weeks. Someone else then goes through the book and see’s what keeps coming up, this is the thing that is making you crack your knuckles. Fix this or resolve this issue / stress and magic you will stop. With me there was no reason that kept coming up. Might work for some?

Idea: Ask people close to you what they think about it

How well it worked: Great idea! You just ask your friends and family how they feel about you cracking and why they hate it. Listening to them telling me how much they hate it really made me want to stop even more – but sadly it didnt help me stop only want me to stop more. I would maybe suggest you do this as it helped me see how nasty it really is, just didnt fully help me stop.

Idea: Replace the cracking with something else
Cost: Just a bit of blue tack – so not much
How well it worked: I liked this idea, as I don’t think about cracking I just do it so if i can replace the just doing with something else all is good. However I tried it and kept forgetting to carry the bluetack with me so cracked my fingers instead. Might work if you sit at a desk and have bluetack handy all the time?

Idea: Breathing Exercises can control the want to crack your knuckles

How well it worked: Not at all, basically the idea is you breath deeply and relax when you want to crack or pop your knuckles, the idea being it is caused by stress and this will help you relax. All it did is make me feel very silly, no inpact on the urge to crack.
